ASHE On Demand Webinar: Ventilation Management

Date: Apr 05, 2021 - Apr 30, 2027

Description:
With the increased emphasis on ventilation requirements in health care spaces and the conflicting requirements of various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), a comprehensive ventilation management plan will help health care organizations manage HVAC systems to maintain compliance with all applicable accreditation, licensure and regulatory standards. Similar to the water management plan, a ventilation management plan is established and supported by a multidisciplinary committee and aims to identify, develop and implement effective strategies to manage and maintain space conditions to meet code-required air exchanges, temperature, humidity and pressure. The plan will also align cross-divisional efforts to provide a standardized, risk-based review of spaces and their specific ventilation requirements and establish common language and processes related to maintaining compliance. A ventilation management plan will ultimately make the hospital a safer place for patients to heal.

Learning Objective(s):
  • Identify the elements included in a comprehensive ventilation management plan.
  • Assess which groups or departments to include in the development of the ventilation management plan.
  • Tie a ventilation management plan directly to compliance-related testing and documentation.

Speakers:
  • Brooke Bohme, PE, CHFM, LEED AP
  • Clayton Smith, FACHE, MBA, CHFM
  • Taylor Vaughn, MBA, CHFM, CLSS-HC

ASHE On Demand Webinar: Sinks: HAI Friend or Foe?

Date: Jun 01, 2021 - Dec 31, 2028

Description:
What is growing in your premise plumbing fixtures and possibly contributing to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in your facilities? Hand-washing has long been recognized as a leading means to reduce the transmission of disease and therefore we have installed them frequently in the patient care environment. However, sink drains (specifically, below the drain) can act as an ideal environment for antibiotic resistant bacteria to thrive. With subject matter experts and leading researchers from the University of Virginia, in this session we will explore the unintended consequences of having so many sinks. We will explore the dynamics of transmission from patient to drain and back to patient. We will present the current understanding of the problem, assess challenges created by antibiotic resistant bacteria in wastewater premise plumbing and explore potential solutions.
Learning Outcome(s):
  • Explain hand-washing sinks drains’ contribution to HAIs.
  • Review research of transmission from wastewater premise plumbing fixtures to patients.
  • Consider of challenges and opportunities for potential solutions.
  • Identify how to begin to contemplate the risk within a local design or built environment.

ASHE On Demand Webinar: Infrastructure Investment – Understanding Operational vs. Capital Investment and the Impact on Deferred Maintenance

Date: Jun 15, 2022 - Jun 30, 2028

Description:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that premature aging or unplanned failure of infrastructure assets increases financial and operational RISK for the organization, that preventative maintenance can significantly extend the useful life and performance of those assets, and that preventative maintenance is often the first victim of operational budget cuts. Simply put, when operating with limited resources, you may be able to fight fires as they start, but you have little chance of preventing them in the first place. In this webinar, we will discuss the current state of infrastructure investment, provide updates on the most recent health care financial trends and learn how to quantify the relationship between operational and capital investment. Does spending MORE money today on operations and preventive maintenance reduce long-term capital needs? Yes it does, and it can even generate a positive ROI for the organization. A message any CFO would like to hear.

This webinar will help attendees better understand the impact of infrastructure deferred maintenance to the physical environment, how to balance investment needs and how to calculate a positive ROI around infrastructure. They will learn the principles of infrastructure investment planning and how to develop a communication strategy with leadership. Case studies and examples will be provided.

Learning Outcome(s):
  •  Recognize the state of health care infrastructure and how this applies to them.
  • Understand the financial relationship between operational and capital spend.
  • Define discretionary and non-discretionary buckets, and quantify investment needs.
  • Use asset life cycle and expected useful life data to support investment decisions.
  • Discuss positive ROI metrics that can be used to secure engagement with leadership.

  • Jonathan Flannery, CHFM, MHSA, FASHE, FACHE, Senior Associate Director of Advocacy, American Society for Health Care Engineering

Information Systems and Data Management: Today’s health care environment demands that information be shared in a fast and efficient manner. Technology has advanced with lightning speed and systems have become more sophisticated. They are capable of customizing management reports, coordinating information from multiple data points and locations, and communicating electronically to other systems.

Through all technological evolutions, however, two basic components remain the same: all computers possess hardware and use software programs. Today’s supply chain staff must be technologically savvy as well as develop good relationships with IT department staff.

AHRMM Executives Network Webinar: The CSCO’s Playbook: Architecting the AI-Driven Supply Chain

Date: May 21, 2026 - May 21, 2026

Description:

Time: 12pm CST - 12:45pm CST

As health care supply chains transition from manual oversight to autonomous ecosystems, the Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) must balance aggressive innovation with rigid data governance. This session dives into the practical "playbook" for leading a digital transformation that survives the complexities of data security and privacy, "dirty data," and the relationship between Supply Chain and IT.

Through a series of targeted segments, industry leaders will discuss the "Privacy Paradox" of sharing data with vendors, the structural requirements for building an actionable Supply Chain Control Tower, and the realities of autonomous Procure-to-Pay (P2P) systems. The panel concludes with a "Lightning Round" on the non-negotiable boundaries of data sharing and the essential skill sets required for the workforce of the future.

Learning Objectives:

  • Architect Governance Frameworks for AI & Privacy: Define the "grey zone" between supply chain data and Protected Health Information (PHI) to establish clear protocols for real-time data sharing with external suppliers.
  • Evaluate Resource Models for Digital Integration: Contrast the "Supply Chain IT" model against traditional Corporate IT to determine the optimal technical staffing and budget allocation, specifically balancing data cleansing with AI tool deployment.
  • Implement Autonomous Procurement Strategies: Analyze the "human-in-the-loop" requirements for AI-driven contracting and automation to ensure clinical outcomes and supply chain costs are integrated without compromising data ethics.

AHE December 2026 CHEST Train-the-Trainer Program - Virtual

Date: Dec 08, 2026 - Dec 10, 2026

Description:

Date:         Tuesday, December 8th - Thursday, December 10th, 2026

Time:         8:30am – 4:30pm CST

Location:   Virtual Meeting

Registration Deadline: November 27th, 2026

This program will be held virtually via Zoom. A Zoom access link will be emailed to all registered attendees a few days prior to the start of the program.

The Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) Train-the-Trainer (T3) program equips health care environmental services leaders with the knowledge and instructional skills to train and certify EVS technicians at their organization. Participants will be able to assess their EVS knowledge and earn a T-CHEST designation, which is required to lead training and facilitate certification. Become a T-CHEST and share critical concepts in pathogen control and disinfection with teams to drive exceptional performance.

The program provides an opportunity to connect with fellow future T-CHESTs, participate in hands-on exercises, cover the fundamentals of environmental services, and have ample time for questions.

Registration

When registering, please use the AHE account of the attending participant. If you are registering on behalf of someone else, do not do so from your own account – registrations cannot be transferred from one name/account to another.

Registrants must attend all 3 sessions in their entirety to be eligible for the CSCT trainer designation.

Mailing Addresses
Program materials will be sent to registered attendees. Registrants receive an address verification email approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the program. Program materials are shipped through UPS; no P.O. Box addresses are accepted. Please provide an alternate address if the mailing address is a P.O. Box.
