AHRMM Webinar: Building Resilience in Health Care Supply Chains through Sustainability Standards for Medical Imaging Equipment
Date: Sep 10, 2025 - Sep 10, 2025
Description:
The health care supply chain is integral to delivering high-quality care while advancing environmental and public health outcomes. The Medical Equipment Proactive Alliance (MEPA) spearheaded the development of a comprehensive set of Sustainability Criteria for Purchasing Medical Imaging Equipment, addressing the environmental and social impacts of health care procurement that can directly influence population health. This initiative is a global, multi-stakeholder collaboration that unites healthcare providers, manufacturers, non-profits, policymakers, and industry experts to create actionable, science-based guidelines. Recognizing health care’s contribution to 4.4% of global emissions, with medical devices comprising a notable portion, MEPA brought together diverse voices to harmonize sustainability standards. The Sustainability Criteria encompass lifecycle assessments, climate mitigation, resource utilization, chemical safety, and social responsibility, enabling organizations to align procurement practices with environmental goals while maintaining excellence in patient care. This session will highlight the inclusive approach MEPA employed to foster stakeholder engagement, overcome barriers, and achieve consensus on these sustainability standards. Attendees will gain actionable insights into integrating these criteria into procurement processes, building resilient partnerships, and leveraging sustainability to drive value and impact in healthcare supply chains. Lessons learned from this initiative will provide a roadmap for implementing collaborative sustainability efforts that advance both care delivery and health equity across diverse care settings. Learning objectives: - Understand how sustainable procurement practices, guided by the Medical Equipment Proactive Alliance (MEPA) and its Sustainability Criteria for Medical Imaging Devices, support AHRMM’s mission to advance health care supply chains through efficiency, resilience, and value-driven strategies.
- Examine real-world success stories that illustrate how MEPA’s collaboratively developed criteria empower health care organizations to reduce environmental impacts, enhance supplier relationships, and support value-based care.
- Apply practical tools and actionable strategies to integrate MEPA’s Sustainability Criteria into procurement processes, achieving measurable outcomes in cost savings, compliance, and improvements to patient and population health.
