AHRMM Webinar: Preventing Tubing Misconnections: Advancing Patient Safety with ENFit and NRFit

Date: Sep 02, 2026 - Sep 02, 2026

Description:

Time: 12pm CST - 1:00pm CST

OVERVIEW:

Tubing misconnections remain a persistent and potentially fatal patient safety risk across healthcare settings. This session will provide an overview of how and why misconnections occur, the clinical impact of these events, and the global efforts to eliminate them through ISO 80369 design standards. Attendees will learn about the enteral (ENFit, ISO 80369-3) and neuraxial (NRFit, ISO 80369-6) connector systems, including device components, real-world adoption, and safety outcomes. The session will also cover practical strategies for conversion planning, staff education, and implementation using available tools and resources.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Define tubing misconnections and describe how they occur in clinical settings
  • Recognize the patient safety risks and real-world impact associated with misconnection events
  • Explain how ISO 80369 design standards reduce the risk of misconnections through incompatibility by design
  • Differentiate between ENFit (enteral) and NRFit (neuraxial) systems and their key components
  • Identify best practices and available resources to support ENFit and NRFit implementation and conversion planning
