Description

As a country we are continually adapting and being proactive when addressing the physical health of our health care system staff, but what are we doing about their mental health now and in the future? This session will explore how the trauma of this pandemic is affecting our health care workforce, and what supports are available as we navigate what the future holds. Mental Health First Aid will be introduced as an educational opportunity to help leaders and human resource professionals do what they do best, help others. This course will provide understanding, resources and strategies on the basics of trauma, recognizing signs and symptoms of common mental health concerns, and how to access appropriate supports. Mental health cannot be an afterthought in coping with a pandemic and this course will introduce you to basic skills needed to support health care employee well being in this new environment and beyond.  
 
Objectives
  1. Identify three ways that MHFA can be utilized to support the mental health and well being within a health care setting.  
  2. Participants will be able to define trauma and the impact of the pandemic on staff well being in the health care environment.
  3. Recognize four signs and symptoms of the most common mental health concerns and specific strategies to support someone that may need assistance or be in crisis.
