Overview:  This webinar will provide an overview of the reasons for drug shortages, recent advocacy efforts to ameliorate the situation, and action steps organizations can take to minimize the impact of drug shortages on patient care. Specific drug shortage examples such as the IV fluids shortage will be discussed.

Presenter: Erin R. Fox, PharmD, FASHP, is Director of Drug Information at the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics and Associate Professor (Adjunct), at the Department of Pharmacotherapy, University of Utah College of Pharmacy. The University of Utah Drug Information Service provides content for the ASHP Drug Shortage Resource Center with some support from Novation LLC. Fox has led the drug shortages project since the beginning of the partnership in 2001 and is recognized as an expert in drug shortages. Fox was an invited presenter at the Drug Shortages summit co-convened by ASA, ASCO, ASHP, and ISMP in November 2010 as well as FDA’s Public Workshop on Drug Shortages in September 2011. She has received several awards for her work on drug shortages including an ISMP Cheers award and the ASHP Award of Excellence.
