Description

As part of the American Hospital Association’s Hospitals Against Violence initiative, this session will explore the complexities of human trafficking. Many health care providers, who interact with human trafficking victims, are unaware these crimes occur and are often not prepared to respond to victims, survivors and those at risk. This session explores specific indicators, reporting requirements and ways to assist victims in the clinical setting. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from a human trafficking survivor, and explore lessons learned in implementing a human trafficking program.

Presenters: Holly Gibbs, human trafficking response program director, Dignity Health, Goldie Smith, director of emergency services, Dignity Health, Folsom, Calif., Anitra Williams, director of nursing operations, St. Joseph’s Medical Center
