Description

Accountability begins with good governance in the board room.

The work begins with better understanding on whose behalf the board governs. "Boards need to better understand the organization’s stakeholders—who they are, what the board’s accountability is to them and who holds the board accountable," said one governance author and researcher. Boards also need to understand stakeholder needs. Said one trustee, "Boards should consider value through the eyes of patients and communities…what do they want?... quality, compassionate care and needed services that are accessible…that’s what community members would perceive as greater value."
